Can you smile with confidence?
Having clean, healthy teeth and gums is something worth smiling about. But if you struggle with issues such as stained teeth or bad breath, throwing someone a lovely big grin is often the last thing on your mind.
So, to put a smile back on your face, here are 10 simple tips for looking after your mouth, teeth and gums which will help ensure you can grin with confidence all day everyday.
Get reacquainted with your dentist or hygienist
Lockdown has disrupted many of our routines, including our health check-ups.
However, dental surgeries across the UK are finding safe ways to welcome patients back, so it’s time to book an appointment!
You should have a dental check up regularly to pre-empt any developing issues and keep your mouth happy and healthy(1).
Drink more water
It seems too easy to be true, but upping your water intake can do wonders for your oral health.
Not only does this keep your body hydrated, it will also help your mouth produce good levels of saliva throughout the day which helps to combat sugar and acids left in your mouth after eating.
Plus, the act of drinking water after a meal will help wash away some of these acids and debris from your mouth. This is far better than drinking carbonated or sugary drinks, which would increase acidity levels and a heightened risk of cavities(2).
Make sure you’re brushing ALL of your teeth
You may be brushing your teeth twice a day as prescribed by dentists everywhere (if not, start now!), but a toothbrush isn’t doing as great a job as you may have been led to believe.
By only using a toothbrush, you are cleaning just 60% of your teeth.
This means the remaining 40%, which makes up the surfaces in between your teeth and in those hard to reach places, are being neglected. Your teeth may look fine now, but in the long run, ignoring these areas could contribute to bad breath, gum disease and tooth loss or in the most extreme cases, have an impact on your cardiovascular health – eek!
Fortunately, you can help to avoid these problems by simply cleaning between your teeth daily. TePe Interdental brushes can help you clean the remaining 40 per cent of your teeth.
Founded in Malmö, Sweden, and developed in collaboration with dental professionals, these small, colour coded brushes come in a variety of sizes, so you can find the perfect tool for getting between all of your teeth and cleaning them to a hygienic standard.
Speak with your dental hygienist so they can recommend the correct size for the gaps between your teeth, or try a TePe interdental brush mixed pack which has six different sizes, so you can find the right size for you.
Eat the rainbow
